Conductive Education is a unique system of teaching and learning for children with cerebral palsy and other motor disabilities. It is a program designed to improve motor skills and increase independence in all aspects of living. Conductive Education utilizes a method of exercises and education, which are broken down into basic functional movements. The exercises are preformed intensively in small groups, which promotes interactivity and fun.
Our "Conductors" work with the children and their parents in a group setting by using positive reinforcement, encouragement and alternative activities to develop the child's independent behavior. It is the Conductor's role to facilitate the process, by ensuring that teaching and learning are appropriate for a child's particular development level, intellectual ability and personal characteristics.
A child aspiring to become an Olympic athlete must practice for many hours each day to train the body to do what does not always come naturally. Conductive Education uses a similar philosophy to help train the motor disabled child's body to perform activities, such as walking and sitting, which come naturally to those who are not motor disabled.
Conductive Education differs from traditional therapies in that it approaches physical disabilities from an educational rather than a medical perspective. In addition, unlike traditional therapy, children are placed in a group setting. The group is viewed as a powerful, motivating force in the child's learning.
